Year 5 and 6
The Upper Key Stage 2 children experience a wide range of historical topics including:
The Ancient Greeks; The Vikings; a study in to the development and tourism of Clacton, as a local study; The Victorians; World War 1 and 2; a study in to Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius; The Maya and social change in the 21st century, including the civil rights within America.
These studies are supported by workshops and first-hand experience of handling Victorian objects supplied by: Epping Forest District Museum Education Service as well as a trip to Clacton to experience the growth of the area as well as looking at how the community has developed over time.
Within the Upper Key Stage, the children are able to access a vast range of resources including using books; the internet; film clips; direct sources such as letters, relatives and objects from the era of study. The children are encouraged to challenge sources of information as well as to identify similarities and differences throughout history, beginning to identify trends over time.
