Reception Applications
Applications for the September 2027 school year will open on 2nd November for children born between 1st September 2022 and 31st August 2023. Applications close 15th January 2027. Please apply online via Hertfordshire County Council at the link below.
In-Year Admissions (Reception to Year 6)
The school is part of the county council’s coordinated In Year admissions scheme. Applications can be accessed via In-Year Admissions and further information can be obtained from the Customer Service Centre, 0300 123 4043.
Nursery Applications
15 & 30-HOUR PLACES AVAILABLE FOR NURSERY
2027-2028 SEPTEMBER START
Nursery applications for September 2027 school year are open for children born between:
1st September 2023 and 31st August 2024.
All children are entitled to 15 hours free early education (15 hours FEE) from the term after their 3rd birthday. We offer statutory 15 hours of free early education (FEE) for September, January & April intakes over five days with children being offered either:

- five mornings: 8:45am – 11:45am
- five afternoons: 12:15pm – 3:15pm

Children born between 1st September 2024 and 31st December 2024 qualify for a January 2028 start.
Children born between 1st January 2025 - 31st March 2025 qualify for an April 2028 start.
Children born between 1st April 2025 and 31st August 2025 will qualify for a September 2028 start.
Parents must take up the full 15-hour free provision unless a temporary reduced timetable is agreed as part of an extended transition.
Additionally, we offer either government-funded 30-hour sessions or paid 30-hour sessions at a cost of £75 per week:
- 30-hour Nursery Session hours: 8:45am – 3:15pm
Our 30-hour provision is now comprised of 30 hours of Teacher-led nursery education. These sessions also include a free lunch club, with the option of purchasing school meals or providing a home-packed lunch.

These places will be allocated under the same admission rules as the main Nursery spaces. However, they will have automatic admission to our main Nursery for the following September.
Nursery Admissions: Admissions for nursery places in Hertfordshire are managed by individual settings. Therefore, Fairfields Primary School & Nursery is its own admissions authority for nursery places. Please note, a place in our nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. However, we do follow the same admission criteria as Hertfordshire County Council.
2026 - 2027 In-Year Allocations
Where spaces allow, we will also admit nursery-aged children in-year for children born between
1st September 2022 and December 2023.
