At Fairfields, we are committed to ensuring that all children enjoy their food safely and develop healthy eating habits from an early age. We encourage children to sit calmly while eating, remain seated until they have finished, and take their time chewing their food properly. Food is prepared and served in age-appropriate sizes and textures to reduce the risk of choking, and children are always closely supervised during snack and lunchtimes.
How parents can help: Please ensure that any food brought into school is cut into appropriate sizes and shapes for your child’s age. Avoid sending whole grapes, whole cherry tomatoes, whole nuts or other foods that may pose a choking risk. Grapes and cherry tomatoes should be cut lengthways into quarters, and any food with a known choking risk should be prepared appropriately. Hard fruit and vegetables should be sliced. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like advice about preparing food safely.
At Fairfields we believe that the very best lunch available to children at school is a hot, nutritionally balanced school meal, and best of all it is free!
However, we understand that some children prefer a packed lunch and so we have attached some guidance on supporting you to provide a healthy and safe packed lunch from home.
By working together, we can help make mealtimes healthy, safe and enjoyable experiences for every child.
